LCPS has fully embraced Second Step Social Emotional Learning and it is being used at all elementary schools and many middle schools throughout the county. Parents need to know that the Second Step SEL program includes free resources from Learning for Justice. Learning for Justice was formerly known as Teaching for Tolerance, and upholds the mission of the Southern Poverty Law Center: “to be a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements and advance the human rights of all people.” https://www.learningforjustice.org/about
Interestingly enough, very few if any professionals in LCPS seem to be aware of these resources. What is particularly alarming is that the SEL Specialists themselves, appear to be unaware of these resources and have said as much to inquiring parents. Parents have also been told that these resources are not being used. This is just another case of gaslighting. LCPS has really made it quite an art over the past year.
The Second Step Educator Community hosts frequent “office hours,” in which teachers from all over the country can connect with specialists from Committee for Children to pose questions and have them answered. Below is video footage of the November 2021 Open Office Hours, hosted by Alexandria Rolle and Jenny Nelson, Client Success Managers employed by Committee for Children. In this video, Jenny Nelson advocates for teachers to use Learning for Justice lessons and curriculum alignment and states that they partner well with Second Step lessons. Further, she states that they support the idea of transformative SEL.
Transformative SEL is just another fancy name for CRT. Do not be fooled. https://www.secondstep.org/anti-racism-and-anti-bias-resources https://cfccdn.blob.core.windows.net/static/pdf/alignment-charts/second-step-k12-teaching-tolerance-alignment-chart.pdf
Teachers have unfettered access to these divisive lessons that teach kids to hate themselves if they were born white and feel victimized if they have darker skin. These lessons teach about BLM, police brutality, whiteism, white privilege, gender ideology, and activism. This is not character education. It is political indoctrination. Opt your kids out now!
