LCPS Family Life Education Statement

LCPS:For the 2020-21 school year, Family Life Education (FLE) in LCPS has adjusted the lessons to focus only on non-sensitive Standards of Learning (SOL). These adjusted lessons for the 2020-2021 school year will emphasize non-sensitive FLE SOL’s that are rooted in SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL), the LCPS Profile of a Graduate and other important concepts as bulleted in sections below.

Although the FLE curriculum is compatible with existing curricula and serves to enrich the educational experiences of the students in the Loudoun County Public Schools, certain objectives in this year’s Family Life Education curriculum may still be considered sensitive by some parents / guardians. To assist parents / guardians in making informed decisions about whether to OPT-OUT their child from FLE instruction, the information provided on this webpage is offered to help facilitate this process.

Why is the above statement important? It is important because SEL (social emotional learning) is a PART of Family Life Education (FLE) and parents can opt their kids out of FLE thereby minimizing their kids exposure to SEL. In a nutshell, SEL is an over arching tenant of CRT. It forces or indoctrinates kids into the world of Social Justice by providing a focus on bias, global citizenry vs American, social justice, injustices in words, speech, behaviors, fair vs unfair speech, conscious bias vs unconscious bias, etc.

I want to be clear, opting your kids out of FLE will NOT eliminate their exposure to CRT, it will reduce it but not eliminate it. We have to fight back against CRT on many different levels, using many different tools. What better way to fight back than using LCPS’s own policies against them? Below are a few screen shots that will show you how you can opt your students out of Family Life Education (FLE):

  • Log into ParentVUE (PVUE), select your student, click “Student Info” then “Edit Info”
  • Scroll down to the section titled “Student Notifications and Permissions”
  • Under “Allow Participation in Family Life Education,”
    • Change the status to say “no” if you do not want your student to participate in FLE.
  • Then, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “save changes.”
  • This will update the system – thank you!
After you are logged in, you will be on your student(s) “Homepage”
From the homepage, scroll down and on the left side look for “Student Info” towards the bottom, click it. Then click on “Edit Information” towards the top and under where it says “Student Info”
Once you click on “Edit Information”, scroll down until you see “Student Notifications and Permissions”. The 3rd option down is called “Allow Participation in Family Life Education”. Just to the right of this change the value to “No” and save. That’s it.
